This summer, each of our six Nursing Homes hosted a 'Strictly Summer Extravganza' inspired by the BBC’s popular dancing competition, Strictly Come Dancing.
The morning started with arts and crafts with our Social Life Coordinators. Residents were given scoring paddles to decorate with beautiful gems and glitter. These were later used by the judging panel for the afternoon performances.
The craft activities were followed by a delicious Gala Lunch, all Strictly themed of course. Our residents were given the opportunity before the event to make their menu choices. The menu featured the Paso Doble Prawn Cocktail starter, the Cha Cha Cha Chargrilled Chicken Salad main and the Tangy Tango Passion Fruit Sorbet for dessert. A big thank you to one of our Head Chefs, Louise Milne, who cooked everything at each Home.
The finale involved a ruthless judging panel, made up of residents and staff, scoring several brilliant dance performances including Line Dancing performed by our Social Life team, the lindy hop and the Charleston.
Alison Hearle, Dementia and Social Life Lead, commented: “The event was a fabulous success. Everything came together seamlessly and our residents’ feedback has been great. Events like these that take up the whole day are something our residents really look forward to and they are always well attended.”
We aim to host a couple of large-scale events across all six of our Nursing Homes every year. Last year it was a ‘Ritz inspired’ Afternoon Tea with beautiful crockery, a harpist and truly luxurious food. The year before that, we held a series of Cruise Days where residents set sail on a virtual cruise to the Caribbean.
It was all planned and delivered by Sarah Compton, Executive PA, and Alison Hearle, our Dementia and Social Life Lead, with support from our Social Life Coordinators. The team are currently planning Winter Wonderland Afternoon Teas that will take place across the Homes in December and January 2020.
